Postby Monzambano » 19 Oct 2013 08:19

This picture of an elephant - it is one of a series of images created 1470 and found in a palazzo in Bellinzona (Switzerland, about an hour north of Milan). Remind you of something?

The elephant with a castle on its back was a common trope in medieval art. Karen Larsdatter has links to a whole lot of examples here: http://www.larsdatter.com/elephants.htm
