It isn't my area of interest so am prepared to be corrected, but the very first imagein this series is believed to have been faked by adding most of the human remains seen in the photo. An early example of "sexing it up".

Very interesting and I can believe that. There was a huge amount of media attention and resulting 'spin' around the Indian Mutiny. I did wonder how so many bare and random bones came to be littered around like that...
