Left handed dagger

Postby Martin Lowe » 16 Jan 2013 21:18

My apologies if this post is in the wrong section but I do think one way or another this might be Victorian. It has the apearance of a Spanish Left Handed Dagger it weighs 2 kg the looks to be forged steel and the hilt and guard cast steel. I picked it up because it was only £2 GBP maybe $5 at a car boot sale. Any opinions rude or otherwise welcome. :)

Was the seller drunk?
The price for the metal in weight costs more than 2 pounds!

I have absolutely no knowledge of daggers (this gives me a grand opportunity to ask for any good sources/books where I can pick up on this gap), but the idea of it being 2kg seems to baffle me since swords generally try to steer away from that weight. I may just answer my own question by saying that it has something to do with how forces act on lengthy items.

2kg is incredibly heavy for a dagger!
To me this looks like some kind of wall ornament, probably from Toledo. Try it on the wall, see if it looks nice :)

I like swords more than you.

2kg? Did you actually measure that yourself? Seems almost impossible for such a small item (though the massive steel handle could weigh in a lot)
