Hello and Introduction, ACT

Postby Noah Gross » 22 Mar 2008 23:13

Hi All,
Matt Easton was gracious enough to invite me over to this board and suggested
introduce my self and ACT.
My name is Noah Gross and I have been involved with the martial arts for about 25 years. Many of those years were devoted to Bujinkan Ninjutsu.
In the past eight years I have made a slow transition first into the western traditions followed by a focus on fighting with weapons on a more broad perspective.

For the past three years I have been involved with ACT - armed combat and tactics. ACT is an eclectic system of fighting with weapons.
Now I know that this forum and board are dedicated to the study of the western traditions yet I ask that you bare with me and hear me out.

ACT was born of the efforts of many individuals over a period of almost ten years. Martial artists of varying backgrounds and styles got together and explored fighting with many weapons to find out what works in a fight and what not with out any limitations of style or tradition.

Today we have a system and a curriculum practiced by over a hundred people in two countries. Currently we teach five bladed weapons, for which we have simulators that allow for good intense sparring, they are: knife, bolo, banana, two handed sword and spear.

We study traditional sources on the one hand and on the other use our direct experience in sparring to developed and refine our system.

Because we are eclectic and none traditional we meet with martial artists of all style and test our skill with them.
This allows us to analyze the differences and commonalities between western and eastern traditions in a hands on way.
I believe that the use of weapons in fighting has many commonalities and truths that transcend styles and therefore believe that there is much benefit in good discussion with martial artists form any style.
The fact that for many years we focused on the use of the two handed sword makes such a discussion with the members of this board relevant.

Id like to extend an invitation to all of you to come and check out our new facebook group dedicated to ACT.

I hope that Alex Zhelezniak will come here and introduce himself as well in the coming week.
Alex is the developer of ACT fighting sytem and chief instructor.

Respectfully,
Noah Gross.

typo - Banana

Postby Noah Gross » 23 Mar 2008 13:22

although we are not against using bananas as a weapon it was suposed to be a japanese sword. for some reason the forum program keeps switching it to banana, no matter how many times i try to type the correct spelling.
the simulator we use for this weapon and the techniques are aplicable for the Bagoa Jian as well.

It's a little forum joke, but people here know what you mean if you write banana. :)
