Hi Glyn,

I fully agree that the open freeplay could be made better, and your ideas are good. I have experienced first hand some of the trouble you describe in my first events.

Currently, there is more public effort on the tournament front. I think this is partly due to the tournaments being so open to beginners (at least up to now). Basically when you pop up and know no one, participating to tournaments is a good way to meet people and fight. That's what I did. It might change as the tournament grows, and then the open freeplay arena that you describe will become attractive, and poses different organisation challenge than tournaments.

But this is not something people will call tournaments in my opinion, so it's not completely relevant to the discussion of women tournament.
