I'm certainly not an expert on the chronology of military HTH, but this seems ahead of its time; closer to the works of the 30's and 40's than any other work from the first two decades of the 20th century.

Curious how they describe Germans as being clumsy in hand to hand; later authors mention Judo being popular there (30's & 40's era manuals); I'm guessing this became fact after this manual was written?

It's along the lines of a film of US army UA training 1917 ish, which granted looks more in line with 30 combatives.

I would think the dig at German clumsiness is more an insight to jingoistic propaganda about the Hun than it is in to the actual H2H fighting skills of the Germans
