Hergsell published his first book on fencing in 1881 entitled Die Fechtkunst (the second edition in 1892), with 22 illustrations, 358 pages. This book indeed contains 3 parts:

Part 1: Foil,
Part 2: Sabre,
Part 3: Fencing salute, bout (assault), how to deal with an unschooled fencer, left-handed fencer, also a part on teaching.
