Talhoffer quote needed

Postby Fab » 13 Dec 2010 18:00

Hi all

Apologies for sounding stupid asking that, but I can't put my hands on the Talhoffer part comparing sword and messer in terms of use. This is pretty urgent, and I have a s*tload of other jsut as urgent things to do...

any help welcome

Thanks

Hmm, sorry, had a quick look through my Mr T. manuscripts but I couldn't find any comparison like that. Are you sure it's Talhoffer and not ms 3227a?
The latter: http://www.hammaborg.de/de/transkriptionen/3227a/09_langes_messer.php plate 82r.

Indeedy, the confusion was mine : Talhoffer doesn't properly say a thing, but shows them (Meser and buckler shown with swords in the 1467 book). Thanks.

Doesn't Talhoffer use the word "messer" to describe a two-edged weapon, like a one-handed sword ?

Yes, in 1467. Sword and buckler plates. Refers to 'Messer' but the illustrations show a double edged arming sword.

There's also a play in the 1467 messer section that's shown with a sword or longsword in the 1459 Thott edition.
